Car Wheel Assembly

General Motors has a robotic competition and this robot came in first place this year.  It's an industrial type robot that assembles wheels onto a chassis.  I give this bot lots of credit because they were able to do something that's pretty tough and that is lining up Lego parts to snap them together.  This MOC does is right.

  1. It "does it right" because instead of lining the parts up and snapping them together, it's using magnets in the wheels and on the chassis. Yeah, it's an interesting bot, but you could also toss the wheels and chassis into a box and shake it for a few minutes and end up with the same result.

  2. yes shame it is magnets.. no reason why it couldn't be done with pins though...

  3. Give those young kids a break. It has been a good mental exercise for them. Most Lego competitions have limited parts allowed in a robot. Plus limited time and money, you don't always get what you want.

  4. Shaking the wheels and chassis in a box won't end up with the same result. The robot senses the color codes on the chassis and mount wheels of the same color.

  5. Wow! I love Lego! I used to assemble them to form anything that came to my mind. It's amazing that they can be used as machines. I suddenly feel like assembling Lego parts. They're fun and entertaining. =)
